NAME or Alias: Rae Nechelle

INSTAGRAM (OR TWITTER): Instagram: @rae_nechelle

ZODIAC SIGN: Sagittarius

ASPIRATIONS: I aspire to be strong enough to follow GOD’s plan for my life… whatever that may be. I want to be a Style Icon for my generation; we need to bring back Queens because we have enough Badd B**8#es.

HOBBIES: I have a passion for styling so in my spare time I enjoy making Mood & Style boards. I also enjoy modeling, shopping for trends, volunteering and creating new concepts.  Oh and of course burning my fingers gluing and cutting old stuff, LOL.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Mira Durma, NiNi Nguyen and Music. If I wake up listening to Lil’ Boosie I’ll most likely leave out the house Tom Boy Chic. If I start my day with Beyoncé I’ll give the people Glam Goddess for the day, LOL.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: Gaudy Necklaces. I only purchase statement pieces, that spruce up simple looks.

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: Unconventional; I dress for the occasion or the mood I’m in. I take no more than 10 minutes to put a look together. Style is second nature for me. To me style is simple, not hard. Some people make it hard by trying to keep up with designer labels. I dress by the motto “Less Fashion, More Style!”

Fall only because “The September Issue” told me so, LOL. Fall is the challenge season. You get a chance to play with layers; pairing leather with hints of fur; skirts and shorts with tights and boots. I live for the chilly nights; long sleeves, boots, leather jackets, and bold lipstick… YES!

That’s a no brainer: RIHANNA!  Her style is unconventional and daring; you never know what you will find in her closet.

Currently digging Jeremy Scott’s work with Moschino, If you follow the brand you’ll know why.

I am currently finding my way while expressing myself through my passion for styling, fashion and creativity. My faith in God will lead me to my destiny; I am building a brand that will launch spring 2015. Whatever I plan to do with my life God will be first; with him all things are possible. I will be the example to the next generation that you do not have to have it all figured out. You can be whatever you put time into being. You don’t have to be a product of your upbringing, you can beat the odds. I know I have a gift, once I nurture and invest in it my name will speak VOLUMES. I will then use it to give back and help save a life, because someone saved mine.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being the DMV Fashion Killer. I have incorporated much of my experience into my applications for fashion programs that I have been applying for. Also working with Les Joueurs was a very exciting and fun experience. Their professionalism made the photo shoot go very smoothly. Working with Street Intell has also been a pleasure with all the good vibes that you send.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: Rings, Hats, Boots …gotta have my Boots!

My Street Intell is life and people. Watching how we tick, how we move and feel. How we are all connected. And showing that connection through my art. I am performance artist. I have such a passion for my Art. So whether theatre, film or music (rapping/singing), that’s my voice. I am in this world to speak loud, speak my truth and if others can relate possibly speak for them too. My generation has so many stories. I want to tell them all. Like wanting to ball out but you know you have to work a double in the am and rent is due. Performing from the people for the people. Right now, I’m writing music, perfecting this form of story telling. I am working on my first Mixtape and the working title is “Conversations” . Out of all the art that I’ve done to date; I’m so excited about this project. It’s personal; these are my stories, my friends stories, what we go through and how they are all so cohesive even though we are from different walks of life. Basically, it’s a story of how we do the shit we do.
I’ve been in the theatre and acting since I was the 3, my mom says since the womb. So I’d like to get back into it once my “Conversations” project is released… So stay tuned!

Honestly, I don’t have a description for my style. I just do what feels natural. So that everyday tells a story.

ASPIRATIONS: My aspirations are connected to style, fashion, fun, and advocacy. My short term goal is to be a successful fashion blogger, and in the sense of success I mean, successful in my eyes. I also aspire to be a fashion stylist and image consultant to a larger audience. As far as advocacy is concerned, as a Lupus survivor of over 20 years, and a kidney transplant recipient of 14 years, I aspire to be a voice and face for persons suffering with Lupus and kidney failure through volunteer work, speaking engagements, and personal contact. My long term goal (but not too long) is to be a published author with a New York Times best selling book.

HOBBIES: I love to blog, [] it’s my newest hobby and what I spend most of my spare time on. I have always loved to travel, and I can’t wait to visit Europe. Of course shopping is a favorite pastime of mine…as well as reading good novels, both fiction and non-fiction. One of my favorite books is “The Glass Castle,” I love the writing style of the author Jeannette Walls and her story is incredible. I also paint with acrylic and write when I can.

STYLE INSPIRATION: I let my mood decide my style. I am inspired by clothing designers who use detailed and intricate garment construction and dramatic details that make an item stand out. I also love clothing that fits well. Clothing that fits well is key! I get inspired in thrift stores and consignment shops. I love buying items that are not in mass production or hand-made. I am inspired by designers such as Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood’s dramatic designs. Pairing drama with street style can be a perfect combination! One of my favorite stores is All Saints.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: I do not have just one favorite accessory but I have many pairs of shoes! I like statement jewelry and do a lot of pairing and mixing. I like to stack chunky bracelets of all different shapes and designs on one arm, or wear multiple necklaces at a time. I like to mix silver and gold. I just like whatever will complement my style.

WHAT’S YOUR STREET INTELL: I believe that God has a purpose and a plan for us all, and once you tap into your true purpose, nothing can hold you back! Having a relationship with God is the pathway to a happy, successful, and fulfilled life. I try to focus on that at all times and that is what drives me to be the best that I can be in everything that I do. I see fashion and I create style. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to do that, and do it well!

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: My style varies. I like to bend the rules. I like to be a surprise, and I like to be organic. I don’t over obsess on trends, or concern myself much with designer names. I like whatever makes sense to me at the time. Overall my look is edgy, classic, sexy, original, and sharp.

August Style Feature

Name or Alias: Marquelle Turner

INSTAGRAM (OR TWITTER): Instagram: @marquelleturner

ASPIRATIONS: My short term goal is to become a marketer, brand manager or creative director in the luxury fashion industry. I’m currently studying global luxury management in graduate school. My long term goals are to become an image consultant (Marquelle Turner Groupe), motivational speaker, and published author.

HOBBIES: I’m addicted to movies. I go to at least once per week. In addition, I also love reading. Two great books that I just finished reading were “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi and “The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever by Teri Agins.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Life is my style inspiration. I can spend hours looking at pictures of cars, art, and culture to find ideas of things to wear. I believe that our clothing allows us to have conversations with strangers as we walk by and leave memorable impressions without actually having to say a word. I grew up a shy kid and any chance I was given to not speak was ideal *grins*.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: My favorite clothing item is the blazer. Growing up in a low-income home, I learned the importance of versatility and maximization early on. The blazer is versatile because it can be worn as a part of a suit or business casual look and then paired with jeans (without the tie) for an evening out for sushi. I educate men all the time on transitional wardrobing (from work to play) and multi-seasonal pieces (blazers with pants and then with shorts).

WHAT’S YOUR STREET INTELL: My life mantra is summed up in three words: Pray. Eat. Style. These three words express my commitment to a strong spiritual life, my addiction to food, and of course my affinity for personal style. I believe that we “inhale fashion and exhale style.” Style is very personal and very specific to each of us. It gives us all a unique identifier and I truly appreciate originality.

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: My style is a always a mixture of classic pieces with current trends. I’ve always appreciated pomp and circumstance, but I’ve always been a bit unruly. My style, as well as my personality, is a bit of an oxymoron; mixing two opposites together to create harmony.

July Style Feature: @BnessYesMEness

Name or Alias: B. Jamelle

Twitter- @BnessYesMEness

ASPIRATIONS: My goal is to be an asset to my generation. More specifically, I want to offer healing, support, kinship, and inspiration via my music.

HOBBIES: I’m a lover of all things artsy, my hobbies all tie into one another. Writing is my passion, I do it often and it often spawns my other “creativities”. I’ll write down a thought and it’ll often times inspire a melody and become a song, or sometimes evoke an image in my head that I’ll use to create a visual piece.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Phyllis Hyman, Sylvester James, my mother. These were all style ICONS in my book. I look to them often for reminders of how doin’ it is done! I borrow often from Phyllis’s use of accessories that teeter the line of being breathtakingly regal…and absolutely obnoxious lol. A lot of my style choices in terms of hair and make-up are in tribute to my mom. Sylvester was an absolute trendsetter. He was a style pioneer and I borrow his fearlessness in terms of dressing like whatever the hell he chose to, lol. Although they’ve all transitioned, I still pull a lot from images of each of them in their prime. Huge sources of style inspiration.

FAVORITE ACCESSORY: My favorite accessory…accessories really, are anything by Venus Visuals. Their jewelry is absolutely unique and I love the brand’s use of bold/culturally significant prints and unique shapes. Check them out at I rock their stuff OFTEN.

WHAT’S YOUR STREET INTELL: My thing is to be useful, impactful, and contribute as a part, to the whole of things. As I mentioned earlier it’s my goal to use my gifts to promote ideas that are beneficial to my generation. I want to inspire others to inspire others to inspire others and so on. I feel like art is a really pure and effective means of connecting people, right at the core. I want to use my art to connect people’s hearts and minds. It’s an excellent tool to have, and I intend to learn it well and use it effectively.

DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: I’d say my style is… rugged regal. I love to shape my looks around the fact that I’m the queen of everything (that belongs to me, lol ), but I’m not at all afraid to do laymen’s work. I command respect. I give excellent care. I’m deliberate and fair, and I work HARD. I like to capture these elements of my persona in my style choices. In short, my style is ME! 🙂
