Street Intell has joined on with our fellow Street Intellectual, Ms. Senya D. to support her campaign: The New American Girl.
The “New American Girl” campaign is aimed at rebranding the traditional “American Girl” image. The New American Girl has been infused with global culture and she is a citizen of the World. Senya hopes to use this movement to encourage girls to love themselves, stand up, and reclaim their own definitions of beauty.
Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder, but if we learn to be beholden to our own beauty, we recognize that true beauty begins with self-love. Everyday we see the same images of what the media deems as beautiful. It is time for people to stand tall and reclaim their own definition of beautiful.
Join us in celebration as we honor this Natural Gem on her day of birth “July 4th” and salute women all over the nation who stand and claim independence from the traditional standards of beauty.
The campaign launches today, July 4th, 2014!
Repost this picture to wish Ms. Senya D. (IG: @Bleroze) Happy Birthday and stand in solidarity, declaring beauty by your definition.
Don’t forget to use the Hashtag #NewAmericanGirl and tag @Belroze
Thanks for the support!

Earlier this month, not only did People Magazine graciously present Lupita Nyong’o with the title of “Most Beautiful” person, they opened up a very special moment for the young star at their cover shoot. They made Lupita’s ‘dream come true’ by introducing her to her living inspiration and iconic international supermodel, Alek Wek.
It was back in February at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon that Lupita shared a powerful and awe-inspiring speech in which she mentions Alek as being one of the people that gave her hope in embracing her own beauty. Check out the pair’s exchange below:
Academy award winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o is lighting up more than the big screen this year. She has been granted the duty of being the new ambassadress for Lancôme. We are overjoyed for her and salute the Lancôme brand for celebrating her beauty
in this newly formed partnership.
It’s evident that over the last few years increasingly more American-African women have been seeking better and healthier lifestyles. As these women begin to take back control of their bodies and social images, we’ve seen a rise in positive promotions focused on their health and wellness; many of which are showcased in various publications such as Essence magazine. For a lot of these women, the positive representation has helped foster not only the transition away from unhealthy daily habits; but an increased awareness to no longer use harmful skincare and beauty products. This elevated consciousness has sparked a natural hair revival among American-African women, which resonates strongly within their communities. And this is in turn a reflective identity of pop culture icons such as Erykah Badu, Solange and Ledisi. Salute to Essence Magazine for these 3 lovely features.

Break out star and red carpet phenom, Lupita Nyong’o has captivated us all with her style and grace. On Sunday, the world watched as she accepted the prestigious Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film ’12 Years A Slave’. She gave a heartfelt acceptance speech and expressed sincere gratitude and reminded us all that “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”
Although powerful, in my opinion, Lupita’s Oscar speech wasn’t the most impactful speech given, to this date.
Last week she was honored at the Essence Magazine ‘Black Women in Hollywood’ event and it was there she gave an more profound and awe inspiring speech on beauty and acceptance.
Chime in, what are your thoughts of Lupita’s speech?
